Information About Mr. Ingersoll:
Hello! Welcome to Science. Let me tell you a little bit about myself... My name is Mr. Ingersoll, but most people just call me "Mr. I", for short. You can call me "Mr. I", too. I got that nickname at my old school. Before coming to VCS Ohio in 2003, I taught first grade in my hometown of Amherst, Ohio. Many of my students could not say "Ingersoll" very well (remember that most of them were only 6 years old when they came to my first grade class), so they called me "Mr. I" because it was easier. Feel free to call me that if you wish... I'm used to it!
Let me tell you a bit about me... I was born and raised in a small town called Amherst, Ohio. It is way up north, right near Lake Erie. Amherst is about 30 miles west of Cleveland, and about halfway in-between Cleveland and Sandusky (where Cedar Point is located). I graduated from Amherst High School, and joined the U.S. Air Force. After living for a short time in San Antonio, Texas, while on active duty with the Air Force, I moved back to Ohio and attended Kent State University to get my Bachelor's Degree in Education. After college, I got a job teaching in my hometown of Amherst, where I taught third grade and then first grade. Also after college, I went back into the U.S. Air Force, but this time as a Reservist (part-time). My current job for the Air Force Reserve is with a Search and Rescue Squadron... Never boring!!!
I still live in Amherst today, but I left my other teaching job in 2003 to join the staff here at VCS Ohio. I really enjoy teaching for VCS Ohio. I will admit that I sometimes miss seeing my students face-to-face every day, like in a regular school, but I try to communicate enough through e-mail, phone, and Blackboard that we will hopefully get to know each other pretty well as the school year moves along! It is really fun for me to be a part of the cutting-edge technology that VCS Ohio uses to teach students online!!!
So, what about my free time? I don't have much these days. Besides teaching 7th and 8th grade Science full-time for VCS Ohio and being in the Air Force Reserve, I also teach Martial Arts part-time for a Karate school here in Amherst (I am a 2nd-Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kenpo Karate). In my free time, which is not too often, I love sports (especially baseball & hockey), reading, skiing, swimming, water sports, and aviation (I got my Pilot's License back when I was in high school). I also enjoy my kids and all the activities that they get me involved in!!!
I hope that you have a great year in my Science class. I would love to learn more about you, so feel free to e-mail me and tell me about yourself. I am always interested to learn more about my students, especially since I don't get to see you everyday! My goal is for you to be successful in my class and all of your classes at VCS. Remember that I am available by phone or e-mail if you are having any questions, problems, issues, or concerns. Feel free to contact me if there is anything I can do to make your journey through my class go more smoothly. Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about me, and have a great year!!!
